The BASICS

SO WHY HAVE OPTIONS?

We found that each tool had its own great results! Try them all to find what works best for your hair!

All tools are great for gentle detangling and styling of all hair textures.

benefits of each tool: soft, medium, firm

Soft Tool

  • Our most flexible tool.

  • Great for delicate & finer hair!

  • Gentle detangling when your hair is very tangled!

Medium Tool

  • Our general use tool.

  • Great for all types of hair.

  • Get a bit more bounce back when using to coil/curl.

Firm Tool

  • Our firmest tool so it will give you the most stretch.

  • Great for thicker strands.

  • Great for looser hair textures.

Things to consider:

  1. How tangled is your hair? Start with the softest, most flexible (lavender) tool on especially tangled hair. You can increase the firmness using our medium and firm tool based on your own preferences.

  2. How much spring do you want for your coils & curls? Use the medium or firm tools when we want really tight coils/curls and/or for looser curls patterns.

Other ways you can use your tools:

  • When detangling: Use two tools (one on your index, one one your middle finger) for even more coverage!

basics for POPULAR STYLES

DETANGLE WITH CurlREv® Detangling & styling tool (D&ST)

Quick Start:

Already have a detangling routine (i.e. finger detangling)? Let’s make it better! Place the detangling & styling prep tool and your index finger and detangle, as usual.

Step-by-Step Details:

  1. Place one Detangling & Styling Tool on your clean, dry index finger.

  2. Start on damp hair. Apply your favorite detangling, conditioning or styling product to your hair. Your D&ST will help to move the product along your hair as you detangle.

  3. In small sections, gently glide the hair in between your thumb and index finger starting at the ends. Move up along the sectioned hair gently moving down to remove knots.

  4. It’s as simple as that!

Tips:

  1. Use with your favorite brush or comb? Use your D&ST to gently remove shed hair and remove knots before using your brush or comb. Most combs and brushes will not alert you of knots before it is too late; yanking at hair, which can cause unwanted damage!

  2. Wear with disposable gloves to protect your skin and nails: Avoid wrinkly fingers, product-logged skin, protect that manicure and avoid snagging your hair on cracked nails!

  3. Expert Finger Detangler? Get more precision, to save time while still being gentle as you finger detangle. “Work smarter, not harder.”

  4. What to do with knots? A great benefit to using our D&ST is you can feel knots on your finger tips as you detangle. When you feel a knot, stop and remove the knot by gently separating the strands or trim away the knot, if gentle separation is not possible. Once you have removed the knot, then continue using your Detangling & Styling Tool.

  5. “Practice makes better”! This may feel new to you. The more you use our D&ST, the more it will become second natural and your second (but better) skin.

Twist-outs & braid-outs with curlrev® detangling & styling tool

Quick Start:

Already know how to create a braid or twist? Well, place the detangling & styling tool on your index finger and style as usual, but now smoother since you’re combing as you go!

Need Step-by-Step Details:

  1. Detangle hair before twisting or braiding. Find detangling instructions above.

  2. Place one D&ST on your index finger. Separate damp hair into a small sections and pin away other hair.

    • Note: The smaller the section, the smaller the twist or curls. The larger the sections, the larger the twist or waves created.

  3. Apply your favorite styling product. Starting at the roots, separate into two sections. Hold one of the two sections between your forefinger and thumb of each hand. Pull the hair taught and then pass one section over the other, grasping it between your forefinger and your middle finger of the hand with the section of hair you have yet to move.

  4. Still holding hair tightly but gently, move the second section of your other hand, holding it between your forefinger and thumb. Move the original section from between your middle and forefinger to between your forefinger and thumb.

  5. Pass the second section over the original section and begin the process over again until you reach the end of the sections.

  6. Secure the twist/braid at the end with a rubber band, roller or create a coil.

Tip:

  • Never did a two or three-strand twist-out before? Watch a how-to video on YouTube to become familiar. It will be the same process with our D&ST on your finger.

Coils & curls with curlrev® DETANGLing & STYLING tool

Quick Start:

Already know how to create coils and define your curls? Well, place the Detangling & Styling Tool and your index finger and style as usual, but now it is easier to get a more precise spiral curl or coil! Also, great for defining your curls for a Wash-and-Go!

Need Step-by-Step Details:

  1. Detangle hair as you coil and curl. Find detangling instructions above.

  2. Place one D&ST on your index finger. Separate damp hair into a small sections and pin away other hair.

    • Note: The smaller the section, the smaller the twist or curls. The larger the sections, the larger the twist or waves created.

  3. Apply your favorite detangling, conditioning or styling product to your hair.
